Theme of Conference:

This first workshop will focus on the mathematics of = noncommutative=20 differential geometry, centered on cyclic cohomology. Current = trends to be=20 covered include: (a) Strong progress in noncommutative Chern-Weil = theory=20 and the cyclic cohomology of Hopf algebras, sparked by work on the = transverse index theory of foliations. (b) The growing deep = connection=20 between noncommutative geometry and number theory, in particular = the=20 relation between the theory of motives in the sense of = Grothendieck and=20 noncommutative geometry. (c) Related developments in algebraic = K-theory,=20 triangulated categories, quantum group methods.

Location and Cost:

The conference will take place at the Newton Institute and=20 accommodation for participants will be provided in single study = bedrooms=20 with shared bathroom at Wolf= son=20 Court. The conference package, costing = =A3480, includes=20 accommodation, breakfast and dinner from dinner on Sunday = 30 July=20 2006 to breakfast on Saturday 5 August = 2006, and=20 lunch and refreshments during the days that lectures take place.=20 Participants who wish to attend but do not require the Conference = Package=20 will be charged a registration fee of =A340. Self-supporting = participants=20 are very welcome to apply.=20
